Your website is more than a business card
It’s a portal that helps potential clients learn more about you and what you do. In short, it helps people give you money.
If your website isn’t giving people what they need to make the transition from random website reader to paid client it’s not working for you.
Hi, I’m Bec and I adore web design
Do you remember those Apple Mac’s from the 80s? The ones where the keyboard and monitor were attached in a one-piece beige box.
I was so proud the day my primary school teacher gave me a license to use it. I was the first to learn to use the schools only computer.
In your face Gabrielle! You might have dimples, but I’ve got a computer license!
(In hindsight, I might have been a geek even back then.)
Web design was something I discovered *ahem* years later when a second-hand 486 came into my life.
The poor thing had to be shut down intermittently to stop it from over heating
My first website was an angsty combination of vampire history and Wicca (I was so goth I didn’t paint my nails black, I hit them with a hammer).
Handdrawn spiders web (Paintshop Pro for the win!) set in a table layout. I know what you’re thinking, but at the time it really impressed people.
The good news is that it’s not just my wardrobe that’s moved on
Table layouts have been replaced with CSS, and static HTML with things like PHP via platforms like WordPress (WordPress rocks!) and I kind of miss the crushed velvet and heavy eyeliner.
These days you’ll find me poring over stock photography or looking for that one freaking coding error that makes everything look weird (or not work at all). At any given time I’ll also be listening to “old” music, singing loudly and trying to convince people to come to Karaoke with me.
Either that or hanging with my kids and hoping that the next person to open the hall closet isn’t crushed by Mt Washmore.
Why should you work with me?
Because I’m devoted to creating amazing sites that will bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses of your ideal client. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death…*cough* sorry.
Seriously though, web design is a lot like potions. There’s no no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations, it’s all hardwork and dedication to creating work that helps your readers find what they need in order to contract with you.
